Detroit Red Wings
Kevin’s Morning Hash: Eberle Trade Possible, Eichel to Vegas Rumor and Red Wings Talking to Everyone
The Detroit Red Wings are the NHL’s 800-pound gorilla when it comes to cap space. And that puts them in a position to take advantage of the reality that many teams are looking to move useful players this summer.
For example, New York Islanders Hockey Now writes that the Islanders could expose Jordan Eberle in the expansion draft. If that happens, the Islanders would obviously prefer to get a draft pick than lose Eberle for nothing.
At 31, Eberle doesn’t fit the Red Wings rebuilding plan. But he is still a 20-goal scorer in an 82-game season. He had 16 this past season in 55 games. He has three seasons left on a contract at $5.5 million. Eberle could help the Red Wings now, but there will be other available veterans who can help now and be part of the rebuild. GM Steve Yzerman will talk to many teams before the expansion list is due on July 17.
Rumor of the Day
Our rumor is one that has been circulating for a while that seems to be picking up steam. Expect the Vegas Golden Knights to talk to the Buffalo Sabres about Jack Eichel. The Golden Knights almost desperately need a top center. The problem for the Golden Knights is they will have to create cap space to acquire anyone in the offseason.
