The Vegas Golden Knights aren’t going to give up defenseman Alec Martinez to the Detroit Red Wings or any other team without a fight.  Vegas Hockey Now writer Tom Callahan predicts the Golden Knights will give Martinez the three-year deal necessary to keep him in Las Vegas.

The Red Wings are rumored to be interested in Martinez if he became a free agent.  Martinez, 33, has a connection to coach Jeff Blashill and the state of Michigan. However, it doesn’t seem likely the rebuilding Red Wings would offer three years.

Callahan believes the Golden Knights will be very active this offseason as they look to add a scoring center.

Trade Rumor of the Day

Matt Dumba would be included in any offer the Wild make for Jack Eichel. The Wild have expansion draft protection problems on defense and a Dumba trade seems likely. He’s an attractive option because he’s 26 and a right shot. He has two seasons remaining on a contract paying him $6 million.
