Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana has a salary arbitration hearing set for August 11

Contract negotiations between the Detroit Red Wings and Jakub Vrana now have a deadline because his salary arbitration hearing is set for next Wednesday.

The vast majority of salary arbitration cases don’t go to a hearing. Usually, the approaching deadline prompts a settlement. It’s presumed Vrana, who made $3.3 million next season, will end up with a one- or two-year deal worth just over $4 million. Because the NHL is in a flat cap situation, both players and teams seem to be content with shorter deals.

Adam Erne’s salary arbitration hearing is schedule for August 21. He will probably receive a deal paying him between $1 million and $1.5 million.

Vrana scored eight goals in 11 games after coming to the Red Wings from Washington in the Anthony Mantha trade. Erne enjoyed his best NHL season, scoring 11 goals in 45 games.
