Red Wings Prospect Raymond Second Betting Choice To Win Calder Trophy

Detroit Red Wings prospect Lucas Raymond is listed as the second betting choice to win the 2021-22 Calder Trophy.

It appears that oddsmakers have much higher expectations this season for Lucas Raymond than Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman does.

“He had a very good year in Sweden,” Yzerman said of right-winger Raymond, selected fourth overall in the 2020 NHL entry draft. “He missed a little time at the end, he had an issue with his elbow he had to get taken care of.

“We expect him to be fully ready to go at training camp and we’ll see. We think he has a really bright future. Is he ready to go in September/October? Maybe. We’ll have to wait and see.

“We have very high hopes for him.”

So does the online sports betting side Bovada. The sportsbook released odds on the contenders for the 2021-22 Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year. Raymond is the second choice in the betting odds at +225. For those not fluent in gambling speak, that means if you were to wager $100 on Raymond and he won the Calder, you’d earn a $225 profit on your bet.

Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield is the +115 favorite to win the Calder. He joined the club late in the 2021 NHL season in time to be part of the Habs’ run to the Stanley Cup final, Defenseman Moritz Seider, who might be the Red Wings’ player with the best shot to win the Calder, is fifth in the odds at +1200.

The most recent Red Wings player to win the Calder was goaltender Roger Crozier in 1964-65.

Wagering On The Red Wings

Speaking of betting odds, here’s a look at Red Wings odds in the different NHL awards categories. You know, just in case you were pondering whether to put down a few shekels.

Sportsbook DraftKings has Detroit goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic at +7000 to win the Hart Trophy. He’s being given better odds than Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo (+7500), Washington center Nicklas Backstrom (+10000), Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jack Campbell (+10000) and San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane (+2000).

Anyone else out there pausing to ponder if Evander might be betting on himself?

Bettors can get +2200 odds on Nedljkovic winning the Vezina Trophy. Jeff Blashill is +10000 to win the Jack Adams Trophy.
