Restricted free agent defenseman Filip Hronek and the Detroit Red Wings reached agreement on a three-year contract on Friday. The AAV for Hronek’s deal is $4.4 million.

Hronek led the Wings in scoring last season. He ended up posting 2-24-26 totals. He also led the club in assists and time on ice (23:23 per game). Hronek joined Paul Coffey (1995) as the only defensemen to lead the Wings in scoring during a single season.

The Czech defender will turn 24 on November 2. Hronek has already played 167 NHL games. He was named top defenseman at the 2019 IIHF world hockey championship. Hronek and fellow defenseman Marc Staal were the only Detroit players to appear in all 56 games last season.

The Wings selected Hronek 53rd overall in the 2016 NHLentry draft. Hronek helped the Grand Rapids Griffins win an AHL Calder Cup championship in 2017. He and he was named the Red Wings rookie-of-the-year in 2019.

Hronek and forwards Michael Rasmussen and Jakub Vrana are the only Wings signed beyond the 2022-23 season.

The last remaining player to be signed by the Wings for the upcoming season is forward Givani Smith. He’s a restricted free agent. The Wings still have $14.2 million in available cap space.
