Here are 10 truths that will remind Red Wings fans how old they are:

  1. Nicklas Lidstrom hasn’t played an NHL game in nine years and he still might be better than anyone on the Red Wings’ defense.
  2. Chris Chelios turns 60 in January.
  3. Dylan Larkin was 11 months old when the Red Wings ended a 41-year old drought by winning the 1997 Stanley Cup.
  4. Scotty Bowman hasn’t coached the Detroit Red Wings in 19 years and he’s 87 now.
  5. Marcel Dionne is 70. His rookie season with the Wings was 50 years ago.
  6. Olympia Stadium hosted its last official game 42 years ago, on Dec. 15, 1979. An exhibition game was played there in 1980.
  7. The Dale McCourt, Mike Foligno, Brent Peterson for Danny Gare, Bob Sauve Jim Schoenfeld and Derek Smith trade happened 40 years ago.
  8. Lucas Raymond was four when Steve Yzerman played his last game for the Red Wings in 2006.
  9. Fan favorite Mickey Redmond has been in the Red Wings’ television booth for 36 consecutive years. His broadcast partner Ken Daniels has been there 24 years. Paul Woods has been Detroit radio analyst since 1987-88 and Ken Kal has been doing the play-by-play since 1995-96.

Incorrect about Ken Kal starting date as play by play broadcaster in 1994-95 season.. Bruce Martyn last season was the 1994-95 when the Wings lost to the Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals. Mr. Kal joined the Red Wings as a broadcaster beginning in the 1995-96 season. You were correct on your other information.
