Duffer’s Dabbles: Ex-Red Wings Goalie Howard Joins Gold Star
Jimmy Howard is back in the NHL. The former Detroit Red Wings netminder is taking over the role of director of player development with Gold Star Hockey. That’s part of the Gold Star Sports Management Group, whose CEO is agent Dan Milstein.
“Jimmy achieved every benchmark of advancement that today’s player strives for,” Milstein said. “He will work closely with our staff and clients across the world to help their development.”

Milstein represents several NHLers, including Tampa Bay Lightning stars Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevskiy. He is perhaps best known in Red Wings circles as the agent for Pavel Datsyuk. Milstein also represents current Red Wings forward Vladislav Namestnikov.
Howard A 15-Season Red Wings Player
Howard played 15 seasons for the Red Wings. The three-time NHL All-Star Game selection retired following the 2019-20 NHL season.
“This is an opportunity to continue my passion for the game and work with players who are at different levels in their development,” Howard said.

Boston: Fresh off a loss to Detroit, the New York Islanders were doing the Red Wings a favor. The Isles were beating the COVID-impacted Boston Bruins on Thursday.
No Asterisk Necessary
Washington: Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is growing closer to overcoming Wayne Gretzky and becoming the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring leader. There are media reports suggesting that should Ovechkin be achieveing this, attaching an asterisk is necessary. The reasoning? Ovechkin’s scoring of 10 more overtime goals than Gretzky.
Colorado: Between them, the Colorado Avalanche and the Nashville Preadators were facing each other on Thursday. They were missing a dozen players due to COVID-19 protocols.
Montreal: COVID-19 put about 20,000 out of action Thursday. Quebec Public Health officials determined the game the game between the Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers at the Bell Center would be played without spectators.
