BetMGM Favors Red Wings To Defeat Sharks

Red Wings, Sharks
BetMGM is listing the Red Wings as the 1.83 favorites to defeat the San Jose Sharks in their NHL game scheduled for Tuesday, January 4 at LCA.

Little Caesars Arena has grown to be a home sweet home for the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings don’t often lose at home. It’s even rarer that they lose back-to-back home games.

However, that’s the case as the Wings prepare to play host to the San Jose Sharks at LCA on Tuesday night. A 3-1 setback to the Washington Capitals on New Year’s Eve was followed by a 5-1 thumping handed Detroit on Sunday by the Boston Bruins. It was first time since February 17-19, 2021 that Detroit has dropped successive home contests.

“We’re coming off two losses,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. “We haven’t been good enough over the last 10 (games), probably.

“We gotta find ways to get a win here. Really that’s our focus.”

As they face the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday again at home, the Red Wings are looking to get back on the winning track. Oddsmakers at BetMGM are anticipating them to do exactly that.

Red Wings Solid Home Favorites

The sportsbook is listing the Red Wings as 1.83 favorites to beat the Sharks. Detroit has proven to be a reliable play as a home favorite this season. The Red Wings are 8-1 against the spread this season as the home chalk.

Detroit is 2-6 straight up over the past eight games. The Wings have scored two goals or fewer in four of the past five home games. Their power play is mired in an 4-for-29  slump and is 30th in the NHL with a 14.4% success rate.

However, the Red Wings have won four of their last six games against Pacific Division opposition.

San Jose is 3-7 SU over the past 10 games. The Sharks have lost their last three road games, surrendering 15 goals in the process. San Jose has allowed eight goals in two of the club’s last three games. They’ve permitted five or more goals in three of the last four games and six of the last nine.

San Jose forwards Logan Couture and Lane Pederson have been placed in COVID-19 protocol and will not play in the game.
