The Detroit Lions will play the team with the best record in the NFL when they host the Green Bay Packers in the regular-season finale at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ford Field. We could all use a little more fun watching a Lions game, and MGM Sportsbook promos for NFL betting are the ticket.
The question, though, is what version of the Packers will the Lions see? Green Bay (13-3) has already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and the resultant first-round playoff bye.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers says he wants to play at least part of the game as have other key Packers players. However, coach Matt LaFleur has been committal on what Green Bay’s starting lineup might look like and if he is willing to allow Rodgers to risk injury in essentially a meaningless game.
The Lions (2-13-1) will try to finish a difficult season on a good note. They are 2-3 since a 0-10-1 start but were blown out 51-29 by the Seahawks in Seattle last week.
The teams met back in Week 2 on Sept. 20 on Monday Night Football with the Packers winning 35-17 in Green Bay.
Rodgers was efficient as he completed 22 of 27 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Davante Adams had eight receptions for 121 yards and running back Aaron Jones scored four TDs – three receiving and one rushing.

Lions Betting Preview
The Lions are beat up going into their last game.
Quarterback Jared Goff is questionable after missing last week’s game with a knee injury. He also sat out the previous game while on the COVID-19/reserve list.
Goff is questionable for Sunday’s game.
Tim Boyle has filled in the last two weeks and the Lions lost both games on the road. Boyle, formerly Rodgers’ backup with the Packers, threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns against the Seahawks in his third career NFL start but was also intercepted three times.
Almost every tight end on the roster is hurt, including T.J. Hockenson, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve last month. He had a fine year with 61 catches for 583 yards and four TDs.
The Lions often used formations with seven offensive linemen last week to compensate for the dearth of tight ends. Veteran Taylor Decker scored his first career touchdown on a tackle-eligible pass.
Packers backup quarterback Jordan Love is likely to see quite a bit of action regardless if Rodgers starts.
Love did not take a snap as a rookie in 2020 after being a first-round draft pick. He made his lone professional start in a 13-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 7 after Rodgers contracted the coronavirus and passed for 190 yards with one score and one pick.
Lions Bets We Like
Packers -4 (-110) BetMGM
The oddsmakers are clearly factoring Rodgers and many other key Packers playing sparingly, if at all. However, Green Bay has one of the deepest rosters in the NFL and its reserves should have success against the Lions’ first-teamers.
Under 44.5 (-110) BetRivers
It is hard to imagine this game turning into a shootout. The Packers will give the bulk of the offensive snaps at quarterback to a novice. Even if Goff starts for the Lions, it is instructive to note he would be a QB1 for just a handful of NFL teams.
The Lions would love to go into the offseason on a positive note but the chances of that are doubtful. They have too many injuries and are playing a team deep enough to win on a day when they don’t even need to try.
