Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman says prospects must earn their way to the show. He specifically says he would like to see them “dominate” at the American Hockey League level before being called up. Jonatan Berggren may have done just that Tuesday night.

The 2018 second-round pick produced four assists in the Grand Rapids Griffins’ 5-3 win against the Cleveland Monsters. Berggren had three primary assists among the four. He has 11 points in his past eight games.

Berggren, 21, now has eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points in 30 games for the Griffins. Last season, Berggren was a Top 10 scorer in Sweden’s top league with 45 points in 49 games for Skelleftea.

The Red Wings would like to see Jonatan Berggren add some weight to his frame. But the Red Wings rank 24th in NHL scoring with an average of 2.68 goals per game. If Berggren continues to produce at the AHL level, the Red Wings will have to consider bringing him up
