Watch Trio Of Former Red Wings Light Up Trailer Park Boys
Chalk up another pop culture victory for the Detroit Red Wings. Just as the Wings dominated and destroyed the Park County pee wees on South Park, they also pounded the Trailer Park Boys into submission.
The Trailer Park Boys are Canadian cultural icons but Julian, Ricky and Bubbles, stars of the hit television show, were no match on the ice for Mike Vernon, Stu Grimson and Paul Coffey.
The former Red Wings players team up against the infamous trio from the Sunnyvale Trailer Park on the ice in a friendly game to promote the impending arrival of PointsBet online sportsbook to Canada. Canada legalized single-sports betting in August of 2021. Licensing details for privately-owned sportsbooks are still being worked out but it is expected that legal, regulated single sports betting will launch in Canada sometime during the first quarter of 2022.
Along with signing the Trailer Park Boys to be their brand ambassadors, Pointsbet also inked a sponsorship deal with the NHL Alumni Association. That’s how Coffey, Vernon and Grimson came to co-star in the promotional spot.
Former Red Wings Grimson Putting On The Foil
It’s difficult to choose the highlight of the video. It might be when Coffey splits the defense of Ricky and Bubbles to score. Perhaps it’s the moment that sees Vernon skating the length of the ice in full goalie gear to tally on a breakaway.
No, it’s got to be when Ricky comes to the bench to put on the foil. As he’s making a mess and foiling his plan, Grimson skates up, nudging Ricky from behind.

“That’s not how you put on the foil,” the former Wings tough guy says, doffing a glove to display an immaculately applied version that would receive the Hanson Brothers seal of approval. “This is how you put on the foil.”
Grimson then glides slowly back, stopping and tapping his stick gently on a spot on the ice. “Anytime you want to ante up,” he says, staring menacingly at Ricky.
Grimson played for the Wings from 1995-96, collecting 165 penalty minutes in 88 games. Coffey was a Detroit defenseman from 1993-96. He won the Norris Trophy in 1994-95. Tending to the Red Wings goal from 1994-97, Vernon won a Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy with the 1996-97 team.
In Michigan, PointsBet is an official sports betting partner of the Detroit Tigers.
