Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill believes his team is better prepared to face the upper echelon of NHL teams.

The Detroit Red Wings will be wrestling with their immediate NHL future over their next seven games. That being the case, it seems appropriate to draw upon the words of the the noted scholar Ric Flair.

It was the Nature Boy who coined the phrase to be the best, you gotta beat the best.

In the case of the Red Wings, it’s more like, to maintain the dream of being a playoff team, they’ll need to beat at least some of the NHL’s best teams over a 19-day span that begins Monday when they travel to Minnesota to face the Wild. Detroit wil be facing seven of the league’s top eight clubs over this seven-game span.
