Frolunda is like a Detroit Farm Team; Edvinsson, Soderblom Draw Raves
Fans of the Swedish team Frolunda perhaps received a brief glimpse into the Detroit Red Wings future when they witnessed a slick outlet pass from defenseman Simon Edvinsson that resulted in a goal from fellow Detroit prospect Elmer Soderblom
The 6-foot-8 Soderblom kept his feet moving and scored a beauty off the rush. Check out the video:

Edvinsson, 19, will be given every opportunity to play in Detroit in 2022-23. He boasts a goal and 13 points in 30 games for Frolunda. Edvinsson is 6-foot-4 and can skate. He can carry the puck effectively and his defensive play has been solid. When you kill penalties at 19, you have to be doing something right. He could end up being a perfect fit with Moritz Seider.Â
Soderblom’s 17 goals as a 20-year-old in Sweden has caught everyone’s attention in Detroit. He was drafted 159th in the 2019 draft, but when the Athletic redrafted that class last fall Soderblom was drafted 34th.
Don’t think for a minute that the Red Wings have landed a beastly player. Soderblom’s size is great because it gives him impressive reach. He’s close to 240 pounds. But he is not a physical player. Soderblom is a finesse offensive player. He likely will spend time in Grand Rapids while he adjusts to the North American game.

Other prospect notes
Left wing Carter Mazur, Denver University, 70th overall in 2021: With 31 points in 30 games as a freshman, Mazur is enjoying one of the best seasons by a Detroit prospect.
Left wing Robert Mastersimone, Boston University, 54th overall in 2019: He put together a solid junior season at BU, scoring 11 goals in 29 games. The Red Wings like his skill. Probably the best thing for him would be to sign after his college season. He’s 5-foot-10, 185 pounds. The Red Wings will need to see him in Grand Rapids to know exactly what they have.
Right wing Theodor Niederbach, Frolunda, 51st overall in 2020 draft: He has played both wing and center as a young player. As a 19-year-old, he doesn’t receive big minutes. But he has seven goals and 11 points. The fact that he has already played 58 games in the Swedish League at his age speaks to his potential. He has 10 goals in those 58 games.
