Red Wings Wrap: Have Wings Had Their Fill Of Hronek?

A year ago, things were looking so promising for the future of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Filip Hronek. Coming off earning best defenseman recognition at the world championship, Hronek led the club in scoring last season.

The 2021-22 campaign has proven to be one of regression for the defenseman, however.

“I think with Fil, he’s a good player,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “He competes hard. I think taking what’s given is an important part of his game.

“Sometimes he’s always looking for the home-run play. Even when you have the ability to make a home-run play, sometimes you look for it too much.”

Moritz Seider has usurped Hronek’s role as Detroit’s number one defenseman and quarterback on the club’s first power-play unit. There’s talk that he’s not happy in his reduced role.

While it wouldn’t be correct to suggest that the Wings might be actively shopping Hronek, they certainly would listen to offers for the defenseman if some team were to come calling.
