The Daily: Grönborg on Red Wings Fans’ Wishlist; Trivigno Sweepstakes

Scores of Detroit Red Wings fans have made it clear they want a new head coach. No sooner had the horn sounded in Pittsburgh following Detroit’s 11-2 loss Sunday were fans clamoring for change.

Much to the chagrin of those fans, Monday came and went without that change. But it didn’t quiet the noise.

DHN’s Bob Duff gave plenty of reason why change is necessary. Well known podcast Spittin’ Chiclets went further and asked for names if a change does indeed happen:

A common name emerging amongst fans? Rikard Grönborg.

Many Red Wings fans want Grönborg if Change Happens

The current bench boss of the ZSC Lions has interviewed as recently as last summer, when he spoke to the Buffalo Sabres about their vacancy.  The 53-year-old Swede is known for his success with Team Sweden (2017 & 2018 World Championships Gold) and has coached a who’s who of Swedish superstars. Some of those names include Victor Hedman, Erik Karlsson, and Filip Forsberg among others.

His name has gained traction with many fanbases, not just Detroit’s. His interview with the popular Winged Wheel Podcast last month only enhanced his profile within the Red Wings rabid following.

If Steve Yzerman chooses to go in a different direction, the respected Grönborg would have a plethora of young and upcoming prospects to work with, many of them Swedish.

All of it is moot until Yzerman makes a decision. But many Red Wings fans have made their wishes known.

Trivigno Sweepstakes Underway

UMass-Amherst Captain Bobby Trivigno is the latest college free agent to acquire the attention of NHL organizations. Trivigno had 49 points (20-29) in 37 games during his senior campaign and has purportedly met with several teams already.

The Detroit Red Wings have not been listed as a potential suitor, but then again, Yzerman is hardly one to tip his hand.

It was Lucas Raymond’s birthday on Monday. The young forward nabbed a number of accolades as a teenager this season. Red Wings fans are eagerly watching to see what his twenties bring:
