Lucas Raymond was four and Moritz Seider was five when Marc Staal played his first professional games with the Hartford Wolf Pack in 2006.  Jeff Blashill was an assistant coach for the Miami RedHawks.  Steve Yzerman was still playing for the Detroit Red Wings.

At 35, Staal isn’t exactly the prototypical player for a rebuilding hockey team.

But it seems likely Yzerman will offer Marc Staal another contract if he wants to return to the Red Wings next season. Here are five reasons why the Red Wings believe he is a valuable player:
