Moritz Seider’s uniqueness as an NHL player extends beyond his ability to be a full-service defenseman as a 20-year-old rookie. He is also candid and comfortable dealing with the media. He doesn’t spit out the cliches that most youngsters provide.

An example of his candor came Tuesday in Toronto when a reporter asked what it meant to him to be the favorite to win the Calder Trophy.

“Nothing,” he said. “To be honest right now for me it’s about finishing the season strong. It’s definitely an honor but I don’t even think about that at all.”
