Moving from the lineup of the Detroit Red Wings into wearing the colors of his country’s national team, defenseman Moritz Seider isn’t missing a beat. He’s proving to be a dominant presence at the IIHF World Championship It’s much like the Calder Trophy favorite was a sensation all season for the Red Wings.

Seider collected three points in Germany’s tourney-opening 5-3 loss to Canada. He currently is sitting with 1-2-3 totals. He’s also got a plus-3 rating through five games. As well, Seider is skating on average 21:09 per game.

When Seider is on the ice, Germany is outscoring the opposition 7-2. However, when he’s on the bench, Germany is only outscoring the opposition 11-10.

Since that setback to the defending champion Canadians, Seider and the Germans have rattled off four successive victories. At this rate, at the very least, they’ll be in the quarterfinals.

“The quarterfinals are all well and good, but every game is important for us,” Seider told German website n-tv.de.

Firstly, the Germans will be looking to repeat last year’s fourth-place finish. That performance saw Seider named the tourney’s top defenseman. Secondly, they’ll try to get to the finals as they did at the 2018 Sochi Winter Olympics.
