After a few lopsided Stanley Cup finals, this year’s battle is a pair of teams truly worthy of Lord Stanley’s chalice. The Colorado Avalanche were one of the best teams in the league all season, and they will face the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Stanley Cup Final bets we like, Prediction:

Tampa Bay (+150)

The Tampa Bay Lightning have two advantages, maybe more;

First. The Colorado Avalanche probably have better skaters at even strength. However, in the Stanley Cup Final, goals are even more difficult to score.

That puts pressure on the goalies.

Remember Chris Osgood rising to the challenges in 2008 and 2009?

Which goalie can keep more pucks out of their net? Easily Tampa Bay’s Andre Vasilevskiy. He’s better by a wide margin over the struggling Darcy Kuemper or Pavel Francouz. Colorado has not yet named a starting goalie, but Vasilevskiy is much better than both.

Also, Colorado has been inactive for more than a week. Recall that Tampa Bay struggled against the New York Rangers early in the Eastern Conference Final before winning four straight? Tampa Bay will have the active advantage early in the series.

Win a couple of early games, and if Vasilevskiy steals a game later in the series, Tampa Bay will win their third-straight Stanley Cup. But they probably have to finish Colorado early in the series. With the generous odds bolsted by newbies throwing their money at Colorado, we say take Tampa Bay.

Also, if Colorado doesn’t get Nazem Kadri back in for the Final, that’s another disadvantage in the Rocky Mountains. Kadri was on his best game all season, and he adds the physical element, too.
