The Daily: Tortorella Firing Salvos At Flyers; Fisherman to Set Sail With Islanders Again?
There briefly was speculation that Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman might be looking at John Tortorella as the club’s next coach. The thinking that Tortorella’s take-no-prisoners appraoch would bring a halt to any sort of complacency among the Red Wings players.
Instead, the Philadelphia Flyers were opting to hire Tortorella, and one thing is certain – he’s aiming to shake things up.
Elliotte Friedman thinks there will be a lot of pressure on Philadelphia early in the season.
John Tortorella has already warned the players he’ll “have no hesitation leaving people behind.”

Tortorella is talking plenty about the toxic environment he’s heard was in existence inside the Flyers locker room. And how he won’t be standing for any kind of country-club environment on his watch.
The Flyers knew they weren’t getting a shrinking violet when they brought in Tortorella. so far, he’s giving no indication that he’s changing his stripes.
