Veleno, Hagg Added To Red Wings Injury List
Training camp isn’t even a week old an already, the injury list of the Detroit Red Wings is five deep.
Forward Joe Veleno was a late scratch from Sunday’s Red & White game with an undisclosed injury.
“He was maintenance day,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said of Veleno. “We probably could have played Veleno. This was a precaution. Lower body issues there.”

During the game, defenseman Robert Hagg left and did not return after being struck in the head by a shot.
“I didn’t get a chance to see him after,” Lalonde said after Sunday’s game. “It looked a little scary there. I think he took it in the back of the ear, head area, which is a little scary.
“He was getting evaluated before I came here. No update yet.”
Red Wings Bertuzzi Still Out
Lalonde was hopeful that winger Tyler Bertuzzi (undisclosed injury) would be able to suit up for the Red & White game, but it was not to be. Bertuzzi, who scored a career-high 30 goals last season, missed the last three days of workouts.
“No. Still day to day,” Lalonde said of Bertuzzi’s status
Forward Oskar Sundqvist, who has a history of knee issues, hasn’t skated at all during camp. Still, Lalonde is expressing confidence that all will be well with all of this ailing group before long.
“I think you’ll see most of those guys throughout the preseason,” Lalonde said. It’s just a matter of when.
“We’ll probably err on the side of caution here, maybe a little later on. But with all those injured guys, outside of (Andrew) Copp, you’ll probably see sometime in the exhibition season.”

Copp, signed as an unrestricted free agent in the summer, is penciled in to be Detroit’s second-line center. But he’s been idling following offseason core surgery. Copp isn’t expecting to be seen in the Red Wings lineup prior to the regular season.
Forward Robby Fabbri (knee) and defenseman Jake Walman (shoulder) will both miss the start of the regular season due to offseason surgery. Center Chase Pearson is also missing from camp for personal reasons.
