Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney may be in the market for another defenseman

Boston Hockey Now reports the Boston Bruins have joined the growing list of NHL teams kicking the tires on possible trades for a defenseman.

Are the Bruins engaging in trade talks for Arizona defenseman Jakob Chychrun?

BHN’s Jimmy Murphy quoted an unnamed NHL team executive saying: “I think depending on their health in the coming weeks or months, (Matt) Grzelcyk or (Brandon) Carlo could be in play for a guy like Chychrun. Can you imagine a (Bruins) left side with – say they don’t trade Grzelcyk – (Hampus) Lindholm, Chychrun and him down the left?”

But Murphy says the team’s most pressing need is a right-shot defenseman. When the Bruins beat the Coyotes 6-3, they only had one natural right-shot defenseman. They now also have right-shot defenseman Anton Stralman, but Murphy said the Bruins defense was a “hot mess” in a 7-5 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Murphy’s report after TSN’s Darren Dreger said that a growing list of Canadian teams are looking for help on defense, although they may not be willing to pay the price for Chychrun. They are all looking at all of their options.
