Sebastian Cossa, Red Wings

The Grand Rapids Griffins begin an eight-game road trip with Saturday and Sunday contests against the Texas Stars. Expect high profile Detroit Red Wings prospect Sebastian Cossa to play one of those games and continue his hot pro hockey start.

The Griffins recalled Cossa  this week because Victor Brattstrom was injured last weekend. In three minor league starts, Cossa is 3-0 with a 2.33 goals-against average.   Cossa made 21 saves to beat the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 in his first game with the Griffins. He is 2-0 for the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

Detroit GM Steve Yzerman has said that his priority is to get Cossa as many games as possible this season. Brattstrom is also a Red Wings draft pick. The other goalie in the Griffins’ mix is Jussi Olkinuora, a former Kontinental Hockey League goalie. The Red Wings signed Olkinuora in the offseason.

The Griffins have used all three of those goalies in their 3-2-0 start. Cossa is 19, while Olkinuora is 31 and Brattstrom is 25.
