The Atlanta Thrashers are returning to the ice for one night only
The path to the NHL for Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot began with the Atlanta Thrashers. For one night only, his old club is coming back to the ice.
Chiarot was the 120th player chosen in the 2009 NHL entry draft by the Thrashers, who were an NHL franchise from 1999-2011. By the the Chiarot was making his NHL debut during the 2013-14 season, the club had undergone relocation to become the Winnipeg Jets.

Though they’ve been gone for over a decade, the Thrashers will be rising from the ashes on Nov. 16. The ECHL Atlanta Gladiators will be donning Thrashers jerseys, selling Thrashers merchandise and even welcoming back the club’s mascot Thrash as they are facing the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
Chiarot is among three current NHLers who were draft selections of the Thrashers. The others are Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane and Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Zach Bogsian.
Hanas Staying Hot In GR
With rookie Cross Hanas potting the game winner at 1:04 of overtime, the Grand Rapids Griffins edged the Toronto Marlies 5-4 in overtime on Friday at Van Andel Arena. Grand Rapids was rallying from 3-0 and 4-1 deficit for the victory.
Both Hanas (1-2-3) and linemate Pontus Andreasson (2-1-3) were finishing the night with three points. Defenseman Jared McIsaac scored his first goal of the season, while fellow rearguard Albert Johansson was dishing out an assist for his first AHL point.
Red Wings Returning Smith To Griffins
The Red Wings left for the West Coast without forward Givani Smith. He was reassigned to the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins. Smith played in Friday’s win over Toronto.
He was called up Thursday by the Red Wings, but didn’t suit up for the 8-2 loss to the New York Rangers.
