The Red Wings are signing 2022 draft pick Amadeus Lombardi

Certainly, his name drew immediate attention to Detroit Red Wings prospect Amadeus Lombardi. However, it’s his game that’s earned him a contract with the club.

The Red Wings were announcing an early Christmas present for Lombardi on Friday. They are signing the 19-year-old center to a three-year entry-level contract.

Lombardi of the OHL’s Flint Firebirds was Detroit’s 113th selection in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL entry draft. The scouting report on Lombardi is that he’s a fast, combative and highly-competitive center who thinks the game well. The 5-foot-11, 171-pounder utilizes his hockey sense to make up for a lack of imposing physical tools.

“I remember having conversions with him during the course of the year,” Firebirds coach Ted Dent told Detroit Hockey Now. “I was impressed with just how serious, committed and motivated he is to be successful and prove he can be a player.

Lombardi has always been an undervalued player. The Aurora, Ont. native was a 13th round selection in the 2018 OHL Priority draft.

“He likes to prove people wrong,” Dent said. “He has a swagger to him.”

Lombardi Has Name And Game

While he certainly is rocking one of the most impressive names in hockey today, Amadeus is composing a winning tune with his performance on the ice. Currently, he’s sitting fourth in the OHL scoring race. Lombardi is Flint’s leading scorer, putting together 21 goals and 23 assists through 31 games. Lombardi has already exceeded his goal total of 18 from last season, his rookie OHL campaign.

“My speed and my hockey sense help me,” Lombardi said. “I am a pass-first player but I can chip in with goals. I think I have pretty good hands.”

Amadeus is not the only family member with a name that plays like a conversation starter. He has a brother named Ulysses and a sister named Symphony.
