The Detroit Red Wings have one prospect at the World Junior Championships and he has a good shot at playing for a medal.

Red Savage’s USA squad is favored against Germany in today’s 5 p.m. quarterfinal (NHL Network). If USA reaches the semifinal, it is guaranteed to play for either the gold or bronze.

Savage is one of the leaders for USA. He hasn’t been one of the team’s top scorers, but has been a presence. He was one of top minutes forwards in a vital 6-2 win against Finland. His efforts were appreciated by teammates as evidenced by the video below.

 

The Red Wings took Savage 114th overall in 2021. He is playing college hockey at Miami (Ohio). He is the son of former NHLer Brian Savage.
