The Daily: The Cost of Timo Meier; Seider’s Offensive Surge

Some Detroit Red Wings fans want general manager Steve Yzerman interested in acquiring Timo Meier.

They need to understand the trade cost will be high.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, according to Sportsnet.ca, are interested in Meier. The expected trade cost would be top prospect “Matthew Knies, plus, plus, plus.”

The New Jersey Devils are also thought to be interested in Meier to play with his fellow Swiss countryman Nico Hischier. It seems likely the Devils would have to cough up blue chip prospect Simon Nemec and/or Alexander Holtz

Undoubtedly, a first-round pick will be requested.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now discussed what it would take to land Bo Horvat. He writes that if the Bruins wanted Horvat, it would require, according to his source,  Jake DeBrusk or Brandon Carlo, plus a prospect and a 2023 first-round pick.

There’s been rumors about the Red Wings perhaps having interest in Horvat. Imagine what that cost would be for the Red Wings.

Seider Heating Up

Moritz Seider undoubtedly was looking forward to his mid-season break, but the big Detroit Red Wings defenseman is taking this break at one of his hottest points this season.

Seider has 11 points in his past 10 games. That included a three-assist effort against Montreal. The NHL reports that Seider is one of six current under-21 NHL defenseman to post three or more three-assist games.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Dylan Larkin’s agent, Pat Brisson, told Detroit Hockey Now he wasn’t alarmed that the Dylan Larkin contract wasn’t done. Apparently, we just need to be patient.

The Red Wings looked like they ran out of gas against the New York Islanders. How did that happen?

Coach Derek Lalonde is determined to make sure Ville Husso has the proper number of starts this season in the Detroit net.

Red Wings’ Next Game

The Red Wings (21-19-8) are on their winter break. They don’t play again until Feb. 7 when they are home to play the Edmonton Oilers. With 34 games left to play, the Red Wings are seven points out of a playoff race.
