Carter Mazur continues to play college hockey like he’s ready to become a professional. The feisty forward scored his 20th goal for Denver last weekend in a 6-5 loss to Minnesota-Duluth. Mazur is one of four players in college hockey with 20 or more goals.

Neither the Red Wings, nor Mazur, has indicated what he plans to do after this season, but it seems plausible he would sign with the Red Wings after this season.

The Pioneers (24-8-0) won the NCAA championship last season and are ranked No. 3 in the country this season.

What that means is Mazur could be playing with Denver into April. College players sometimes come out in time to play a couple of games at the American Hockey League or NHL level. But Denver’s regular-season end March 4 and the NCHC Quarterfinals are March 10-12. The conference’s championship games will be deciding March 17-18.

If the Pioneers make it back to the Frozen Four, that is scheduled for April 6-8. The Red Wings’ last regular-season game is April 13. The Grand Rapids Griffins’ last game is April 15.

Trade Deadline Chatter

The idea of Patrick Kane playing for the New York Rangers isn’t dead. Larry Brooks of the New York Post and ESPN’s Emily Kaplan provided reporting to support that idea. Kaplan first said the Rangers were still interested in acquiring Patrick Kane. Brooks then confirmed it.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The surging Red Wings, 6-1 in their past seven games, are emerging from the field in the Eastern Conference wild card field.

Jakub Vrana keep his game simple and played a solid game in his return to the Red Wings’ lineup.

Red Wings’ Next Game

The Red Wings (27-21-8) are home to face the New York Rangers tonight. The Red Wings are two points out of a playoff spot and have six games in hand against the Florida Panthers. They hold the last wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers lost their last game, but they are 7-1-2 in their past 10.
