The Nashville Predators have shaken up their team to its core. They traded rough-and-tumble forward Tanner Jeannot to Tampa Bay for defenseman Cal Foote and five draft picks Sunday. On Saturday, they moved Nino Niederreiter to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2024 second-round pick.

On Sunday, the franchise also announced that David Poile is stepping down as the team’s general manager.

Poile, 73, is the only general manager in the Predators’ history. He will be replaced by Barry Trotz who was the franchise’s first coach. He’s popular with the fan base.

The Predators may not be done dealing. New York Islanders Hockey Now is reporting the Predators and Islanders are talking about a potential trade.  The Predators may be interested in injured Oliver Wahlstrom for the long-term.

Remember that Trotz was the Islanders’ coach last season.

Amadeus Scores 38th Goal

Center Amadeus Lombardi has made sure the Detroit Red Wings pay attention to him this season. He scored a nice goal for his 38th on Sunday afternoon. That is his 15th goal over the past 17 games.

With 10 games remaining in the Ontario Hockey League schedule, the Flint Firebirds player has a good shot at reaching the 40-goal mark.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The Red Wings have no timetable for Michael Rasmussen’s return from his knee injury. He was struck on the kneecap by a Zach Bogosian shot. But coach Derek Lalonde said Rasmussen won’t be back anytime soon.

Bob Duff wrote a behind-the-paywall piece about how the Red Wings have made Steve Yzerman’s decisions difficult.

Red Wings’ Next Game

The Red Wings (28-22-8) are on the road tonight for the first of two games against Ottawa Senators (28-26-4). The two teams are playing back-to-back in Ottawa because a Dec. 23 game was postponed because of inclement weather. These are big games for both teams. The Red Wings are three points out of a playoff spot, and the Senators are four points behind Detroit.
