The Daily: Red Wings’ Power Play Surges; Mazur, Buium Help Oust Savage

David Perron, Red Wings

It will be the Detroit Red Wings’ surging power play vs. a hot Nashville Predators team Tuesday in Nashville.

The Red Wings have scored at least one power play in each of their last three games and four of their last five games. Since the All-Star break, Detroit’s power play has converted on 24.3% of its chances. The Red Wings had two power play goals, plus a shorthanded goal, in beating the Bruins 5-3 Sunday afternoon

What’s up with the PP? Moritz Seider seems to be making another leap in his development. Alex Chiasson’s net-front presence has helped.

Meanwhile, the Predators are making a strong push to get into the playoffs. The Predators are 7-2-1 in their past 10 games and are five points out of a wild-card position in the Western Conference.

Mazur, Buium Advance

Detroit Red Wings prospects Carter Mazur and Shai Buium helped Denver eliminate Detroit prospect Red Savage’s Miami team this weekend in National Collegiate Hockey Conference playoffs.

Denver won 6-2, 7-2 to win the best-of-three playoff series. Buium had a goal and an assist in the 7-2 triumph. Mazur posted an assist. He also had an assist in the 6-2 win.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Tyler Bertuzzi was scoreless in his first game at Little Caesars Arena since he was traded. He said his return felt very weird.

Keep an eye on Red Savage as a Red Wings player. He may not ever be a premium scorer, but he could end up being a premium role player.

Moritz Seider is the first 21-and-under Red Wings defenseman to score shorthanded in 34 years.

Red Wings’ Next Game

The Red Wings (30-27-9) play on the road against the Nashville Predators Tuesday.
