Former Red Wings tough guy Darren McCarty found himself in the midst of a pro wrestling squabble.

This weekend was the anniversary of the infamous March 26, 1997 brawl between the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche. The main event was the showdown between Detroit tough guy Darren McCarty and Colorado heel Claude Lemieux.

Twenty-six years after the fact, McCarty found himself in the midst of another scrap with a heel. Only this team, he came out of the scrap second best.

It all happened during a weekend Impact Wrestling card in nearby Windsor, Ont. McCarty was sitting ringside. During a bout between Tommy Dreamer and Bully Ray, the latter grabbed McCarty’s drink, took a swing and then through the remainder of the beverage in McCarty’s face.

After the bout ended in Bully Ray’s victory, McCarty cleared the security barriers, entering the ring. Bully Ray and McCarty exchanged punches. Two other wrestlers entered the ring and attacked McCarty, overpowering him. The trio then combined to slam the fomer Red Wing through a table.

Of course, being that this is pro wrestling, it’s only the beginning of the story. McCarty will get his chance for revenge April 6 as part of a six-man tag team bout.

Rogle Bows Out

Red Wings prospects Marco Kasper (8th overall, 2022) and William Wallinder (32nd overall, 2020) are out of the SHL playoffs after Rogle fell 5-1 on Sunday to Skelleftea in the SHL quarterfinals.

Neither player figured in the scoring. Rogle dropped the best-of-seven set 4-2.

Michigan To Frozen Four

A 2-1 overtime victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions advanced the Michigan Wolverines into the NCAA Frozen Four. Red Wings draftee Kienan Draper (187th, 2020) is on the Michigan roster, though he’s yet to suit up in the tournament.

Ethan Phillps (97th, 2019) and the Boston Terriers moved into the Frozen Four with a win over Cornell on Saturday.
