The Daily: Red Wings Perron Saving Pucks For Kids; Bruins Clinch President’s Trophy

Three pucks, three kids – Perron does the math

David Perron, Red Wings
Red Wings forward David Perron gave each of his three kids a puck from his hat-trick performance.

Previously during his NHL career, David Perron was responsible for seven regular-season and one playoff hat-trick during his NHL career. However, after his initial hat-trick for the Detroit Red Wings, Perron was able to create a family first. He was dishing out one of his hat-trick pucks to each of his three children.

Until earlier this month, he couldn’t do that. Perron and his partner Valerie Vandal recently were welcoming their third child, a daughter Sofia, giving them a hat-trick of children. Son Mason and daughter Victoria preceded Sofia into the family.

Howe About That Record?

In their previous life as the Hartford Whalers, the Carolina Hurricanes, Thursday’s visitors to Little Caesars Arean, were making a unique piece of Red Wings history.

On Jan. 12, 1980, the Whalers were downing the Red Wings 6-4 at Joe Louis Arena. In Hartford’s lineup that night was Gordie Howe. In 26 seasons as an NHLer, that was the only NHL regular-season game Howe ever won in Detroit as a visitor.
