Red Wings forward David Perron would like to see old teammate Jonathan Marchessault win the Stanley Cup.

When following the Stanley Cup playoffs, players like David Perron of the Detroit Red Wings don’t necessarily root for teams to win. They do, however, hold vested interest in the possible outcomes for old teammates, especially those who’ve grown to become close friends.

That’s the case with Perron and a prominent member of the Vegas Golden Knights, who he’d very much like to see enjoy a Cup-uplifting experience this spring.

“I’m a good friend with Jonathan Marchessault in Vegas,” Perron related. “A lot of his friends around him have found ways in the last five years to win Cups – Alex Chiasson, who was with us, myself, Yanni Gourde, David Savard. All guys expect from me from Quebec City where he grew up.

“If there’s anyone I would like to see raise the Cup, it would be him.”
