Detroit Red Wings prospect goaltenders Sebastian Cossa (4-0, 1.25 goals-against average, .954 save percentage) and John Lethemon (4-0, 2.25, .925) face their biggest test of the ECHL playoffs this weekend when the Toledo Walleye travel west to face the Idaho Steelheads in the Western Conference Finals.

The Steelheads owned the ECHL’s best record (58-11-1, 119 points) in the regular-season. They were also the No. 1 offensive and defensive team with a scoring rate of 4.02 goals per game and a team goals-against average of 2.13.

Idaho’s Owen Hendrick was also voted the league’s top defenseman. The former Lake Superior State player registered 15 goals and 54 points in 63 games.

The Walleye and Steelheads didn’t play each other this season.

Toledo coach Dan Watson has been rotating the two Red Wings prospects in net. If he continues that practice, Cossa (drafted 15th overall in 2021) will play Saturday and Lethemon will go Sunday.  Cossa, 20, is Detroit’s top goaltending prospect.

Red Wings’ Offseason

Detroit forward Jonatan Berggren leads the Swedes with three points. Ottawa Senators player Patrick Brown, son of former Detroit Red Wings player Doug Brown, joined Team USA Tuesday.
