The Daily: Mock Draft Has Dvorsky With Red Wings; Lalonde Americans 5-0

Derek Lalonde, Red Wings coach

Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde and Detroit prospect Carter Mazur have been part of one of the best American starts at the World Championships in USA Hockey history.

The Americans will be trying to win their sixth consecutive game today in Tampere, Finland when they meet France at 1:20 pm ET (NHL Network). USA downed Denmark 3-0 today to raise their record to 5-0. Lalonde is one of head coach David Quinn’s assistants and Mazur owns one of the game-winning goals in the five wins.

“I thought we played as complete of a game as we have since our opening game against Finland,” said David Quinn</, head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team. “It was an important victory and now we need to get some rest and be ready for the next challenge against France tomorrow.”

The Americans have only won nine medals, and they’ve all been bronze, in the last 62 years at the World Championships. USA hasn’t won a silver since 1950 and a gold since 1933.

Lalonde told Detroit Hockey Now recently that his primary objective for being involved is to help USA win a medal.
