The Daily: Ducks May Deal Gibson; Sharks Pass on Michkov?

John Gibson, anaheim ducks

The goalie market be stronger than the Red Wings anticipated this summer. The Daily Faceoff reported that Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson has asked for a trade. Lisa Dillman of the Orange County Register said it is believed Gibson asked Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek for the trade last month.

She also says asking for a trade doesn’t mean the Ducks will make it happen.

If the Ducks trade him, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs are possible destinations. He has a modified no-trade clause of 10 teams.

The Red Wings probably aren’t interested in giving up significant assets to land Gibson, but are interested in acquiring a veteran goalie to play with Ville Husso. But if he is dealt, it could have a trickle down effect of who might be available for Detroit.  At the end of the season, GM Steve Yzerman said he expected the goalie market to be thin.

Red Wings Offseason

Since Mike and Marian Ilitch purchased the Detroit Red Wings in 1982, the team has won a combined 1,755 regular season and playoff games, ranking third in the NHL over that span. Boston and Washington are ahead of Detroit.  Since 1995-96, the Red Wings have won an NHL-best 1,273 games, with 1,128 regular-season wins and 145 playoff victories.
