What to Know

Ken Kal tweeted this morning he will be back calling the next two Red Wings games. The team will play Columbus in a home matinee on Saturday.  Kal had been sidelined since undergoing surgery last month. “I had a perforated colon,  just needed emergency surgery,; Kal said. “Surgeons did a great job. Just took a while to get back to where I’m at right now.” He won’t make the Wings’ trip to Sweden next week but will return after the team returns. “I feel great. Great to be back,” he said. “I went through some trying times there, but everything’s good. … It just came out of nowhere. I must have had an infection and it perforated the colon. It must have happened two days before. All that stuff starts seeping into our gut and you get pain.” Grand Rapid announcer Bob Kaser, who filled in for Kal while he was out, will do the games in Sweden. …

Montreal comes in having lost four in a row after winning four out of its previous five games. The Canadiens are struggling, both with (2.75 goals per game on offense) and without (3.5 goals against) the puck. Only four Montreal players have more than four goals this season. …

Larkin in, Fabbri May Not Play

The Red Wings have gotten into a rut with their slow starts this season. They’ll try to get out of it tonight with Dylan Larkin in the lineup. “Dylan should be good,” coach Derek Lalonde said. “He didn’t skate today but he got through (Tuesday) well and he’ll be available (tonight).”…

James Reimer will start in net for the Red Wings. Lalonde said last week that Ville Husso would start two of the final three games before the Sweden trip, an indication Husso will start Saturday. Alex Lyon has yet to play for the Wings, but Lalonde said he will be making the European trip.. “In Sweden, you want three goalies,” Lalonde said. “He’ll probably get a lot of quality work even if he doesn’t get game time.”
