GRAND RAPIDS — Sebastian Cossa is making his way through the Detroit Red Wings farm system, step by step.

After a strong performance in the regular season, the next step is leading his team to success in the playoffs. Like his team, Cossa is learning that a higher performance level is required for the postseason. His Grand Rapids Griffins are tied with Rockford 1-1 in their first round Calder Cup playoff series. The IceHogs ripped the Griffins 5-1 Wednesday with Cossa in the net. The loss wasn’t Cossa’s fault, but it wasn’t his best performance either.

“I think he’d like to have some of those back for sure,” Coach Dan Watson said. “Three on one, that’s tough to stop. Puck off the pants, that’s gonna be tough to stop. I’m sure he’d want the fourth one back. After that, the game’s starting to get away from us anyways.”
