The Daily: Can Canucks Re-Up Lindholm?; Disappointment in GR

The Vancouver Canucks show $23.8 million in available cap space for next season. But that’s misleading. The figure is right, but the Canucks only has 15 people signed. That available cap space will disappear quickly as they sign eight more players for the roster, including veteran defenseman Filip Hronek or heavy hitter Dakota Joshua.
But Sportsnet.ca has an interesting article in which it explores whether they could re-sign Elias Lindholm who has played well for them in the postseason. The Canucks acquired him this season from the Calgary Flames.
The story’s take: You can’t rule it out when Vancouver management starts to problem solve. But it certainly wouldn’t be easy.
“If the Canucks were to sign him at, for instance, $7.85 million per year, that would eat up roughly one-third of their available cap space this off-season,” Sportsnet writer Courtney Jacobsen wrote. “Not completely out of the realm of possibility, but a tough pill to swallow for a front office that places value in cap flexibility.”
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
The Grand Rapids Griffins fell 3-2 in overtime in Game 3 of their AHL playoff series. The Red Wings management team was there to watch Detroit prospects, including Nate Danielson. The Griffins trail 2-1 in the best-of-five series.
Former Red Wings player Ville Leino owns a clothing design company that created licensed apparel for the Finnish national team.
Red Wings player Lucas Raymond jokes that his Detroit teammate Olli Maatta is in “airport mode” before Finland’s quarterfinal match against Sweden. It’s better if the two friends don’t talk before the big game.
Red Wings Offseason
Red Wings’ prospect Trey Augustine won’t dressing for USA’s quarterfinal game against Czechia at the World Championships. Washington Capitals goalie Charlie Lindgren is the expected starter and former Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic is the backup. Nedeljkovic will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry has played six of USA’s seven games and is averaging just under 14 minutes per game. He has one assist and an even plus-minus.
