The Daily: Devils Have Options Beyond Ullmark; Ghost Odds

Linus Ullmark, boston bruins

Boston Hockey Now’s Andrew Fantuccio said the New Jersey Devils have all the pieces they need to acquire goaltender Linus Ullmark from the Bruins.

But as he points out, it doesn’t mean an Ullmark deal will happen. The first issue is Ullmark’s modified no-trade clause. He can veto a trade to 16 of the 32 teams.

Second, and equally important, the Devils have other attractive options. Nashville’s Juuse Saros and Calgary’s Jacob Markstrom have also been mentioned as possibilities. The Devils own the No. 10 overall pick for this month’s NHL draft and Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald has said he’s willing to move it in the right deal.

The first round pick would be particularly enticing for the Bruins who need to restock their prospect pool.

“A deal with the Devils for Ullmark makes far too much sense for the Bruins not to pursue,” Fantuccio wrote. “It’s likely that more rumors will materialize over the next few weeks, with the Ullmark trade saga nowhere close to being over.”
