Amanda Kessel, Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Penguins Special Assistant to the GM Amanda  Kessel is in discussions about the possibility of becoming the general manager of the PHWL’s Minnesota franchise.

Kessel, 32, was also drafted in the seventh round of the PHWL draft by Montreal.  She would have been drafted much higher had she not been in consideration to go into management. The Sister of Phil Kessel, Amanda has long been a noteworthy scorer in the women’s game.

In other Penguins news, the team seems to be on the verge of hiring former San Jose and New York Rangers coach David Quinn as an assistant on Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan’s staff. The Athletic originally reported the story.

One interesting layer to the hiring is that Quinn was San Jose’s coach when Erik Karlsson had an exceptional season.

Tim Robinson looks at who the Red Wings should have drafted in the years when they swung and missed on a pick in the first two rounds. They should have drafted smallish Michigan native Alex DeBrincat one year.

Oddly, the Red Wings have missed on two second-round picks recently and hit on seventh-round picks Carter Gylander (2021) and Emmitt Finnie (2023).
