The Daily: NHL Buyout Period May Be Busy; Eichel vs. Marner

For some teams, the NHL buyout period can be as important as the start of the free agent signing race that begins on July 1. The buyout window opens 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It stays open until June 30 at 5 p.m.
Last year, NHL teams bought out nine players, including Nashville Predators’ Matt Duchene.
This year, the buyout period is expected to be busy. Faceoff.com lists nine players who face the possibility of a buyout, including goalies Jack Campbell, Joonas Korpisalo and Cal Petersen. The Athletic has 12 players on its list.
Keep an eye on veteran NHL defensemen Ryan Suter and Torey Krug.
The Red Wings are not expected to buy out any players, although the media has learned to be open minded when trying to project what GM Steve Yzerman might do.
