Ranking Red Wings Prospects: The Forwards (+)
In the past couple of NHL seasons, Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman has opted to patchwork his forward depth by signing veteran unrestricted free agents. The design for going this route is to give the club’s young forward prospects more time and opportunity to develop prior to making the jump to the NHL.
It’s meant that even first-round picks like Marco Kasper haven’t been rushed into the spotlight of the NHL. Instead, Kasper’s been given a season in the SHL and another in the AHL – a similar path to what was followed by current Red Wings forward Joe Veleno. He was also a first-round draftee.
Berggren Will Be Moving To Red Wings
Jonatan Berggren, out of waiver options, will become a full-time Red Wings forward next season. However, who’s next in the pipeline to be making that final step up the ladder?
