The Daily: Trade Focus Now on Bruins’ Ullmark; Yzerman Foresight

It’s two netminders traded, and a couple more to go in the hot NHL goalie market. With Calgary’s Jakob Markstrom (to New Jersey) and Darcy Kuemper (to Los Angeles) moved Wednesday, Boston Hockey Now’s Andrew Fantuccio wrote that all eyes are on the Boston Bruins because they have difference maker goalie Linus Ullmark still to move.
Fantuccio believes that the Ottawa Senators are now the last and best hope to move Ullmark.
Veteran hockey writer Bruce Garrioch is reporting that the Senators are making “a push” to acquire Ullmark who was the league’s Vezina Trophy winner in 2022-23. To read Garrioch’s story:

Fantuccio believes the Bruins will want at least a first-round pick and perhaps defenseman Jakob Chychrun as part of a deal.
The other teams that may be kicking the tires on goalie deals, even the Detroit Red Wings. GM Steve Yzerman said at the end of the season that he would look at any goalie deal that would upgrade that position. Right now, the Red Wings project to go into the 2024-25 season with Alex Lyon and Villie Husso as their top two goalies.
There could be other trade possibilities including Anaheim’s John Gibson. Nashville’s Juuse Saros has been mentioned but it seems as if the Predators will likely keep him.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
GM Steve Yzerman works at maintaining his cap space, even playing hardball with young players like defenseman Albert Johansson.

SKA St. Petersburg traded Detroit prospect Dmitry Buchelnikov to Vityaz. What does this say about Buchelnikov’s NHL potential?
Red Wings Offseason
When the Vancouver Canucks gave Filip Hronek $58 million ($7.25 million per season) on an eight-year deal it validated Steve Yzerman’s belief that he would have a difficult time signing Hronek if he kept him. Imagine Detroit’s plight this summer if they had to sign Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond and Hronek. Yzerman saw this coming. He was happy for the return on Hronek. He got a first-round pick that became Axel Sandin Pellikka and landed two other picks that became Brady Cleveland and Kevin Bicker. But the Canucks received a defenseman who plays well with Quinn Hughes. That’s uber-important to them.
“I really enjoyed the whole season. It was an easy decision to make and I’m really happy we got a deal done.”
