A funny thing happened to the Florida Panthers on their way to what could have been a sweep in the Stanley Cup Final.  After claiming a 3-0 series lead, the Panthers haven’t been the same team and the Edmonton Oilers now look like a superpower.

Since falling behind 3-0 in the series, the Oilers have outscored Florida 18-5. The Panthers haven’t had a lead since Game 3. The Oilers have led every second since. FHN’s George Richards has the details.

Game 7 will be Monday.

The Panthers in danger of becoming the first NHL team in 82 years to squander a 3-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final. The only other team to suffer that indignity was the 1942 Detroit Red Wings. They surrendered their 3-0 SCF series lead to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942. DHN’s Bob Duff looks back at that series.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Detroit captain Dylan Larkin is recovering from offseason surgery. GM Steve Yzerman revealed that Larkin needed surgery to repair an upper body injury that he endured late in the season.

The Red Wings may land a goalie, but it is unlikely to be Anaheim’s John Gibson. The Red Wings may be looking for a veteran to play in Grand Rapids and be the No. 3 goalie.  Bob Duff has the details.

Paywall story: The Red Wings don’t really have much cap space to go aggressively after their own free agents. Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider will claim the majority of their cap space. Red Wings Offseason

In projecting the Red Wings cap situation, keep in mind that Joe Veleno is arbitration eligible. That is going to lift his salary just a bit. AFP Analytics projects Veleno’s salary will come in at $1.98 million on a two-year deal. He earned $850,000 this season.
