The Daily: Jets May Trade Intriguing Prospect; NHL Rumors
University of Michigan forward Rutger McGroarty, a premium Winnipeg Jets prospect, might be traded before the NHL draft.
Rumors have stepped since Elliotte Friedman reported that trade talks about McGroarty, 20, have occurred. McGroarty recently announced he was heading back to Ann Arbor for his junior season. That prompted speculation about possible tension between the Jets and the player. McGroarty seems more than ready for professional hockey.
The Jets drafted Nebraska native McGroarty 14th overall in 2022. He is a hard-nosed forward who put up 16 goals and 52 points in 35 games last season for Michigan.
The presumption would be that if the Jets were to trade McGroarty they would want, as a minimum, a draft pick in the top half of the first round.

Friedge on #NHLJets McGroarty: being careful because no one is talking, but that his name has been included in trade talks, or teams have discussed acquiring his right; but it’s interesting because he did decide to go back to the NCAA and Jets don’t have a 1st at the draft. https://t.co/SWhtFoqC3i pic.twitter.com/QfkRzAS6Uj

Red Wings Offseason
Talking about Justin Holl’s future, Yzerman said Friday: “I’m not sure we’ll go back with the same group of Dmen next year, but Justin was a good player in the NHL and will be. Just didn’t get opportunity and we had some depth and we didn’t have any injuries… I still have had talks and will continue to talk with (Shayne Gostisbehere’s) agent. Haven’t ruled that out. We would like to try and figure something out, but in order to do that, we’ve got potentially Simon and Albert Johansson (coming next season). We got to make room for those guys and figure out a way to do that. ”
