The Daily: What Krug Injury Means to Blues; Detroit ‘D’ Emphasis
Forgive St. Louis Blues fans if they don’t know how to feel about Torey Krug’s potential season-ending injury news. The Blues have been trying to move Krug, but he blocked a potential deal to the Philadelphia Flyers by using his no-trade clause.
Krug is a skillful offensive minded defenseman, but a recent signing of Ryan Suter gave them nine defenseman. They have depth to move on this season.
The situation is Krug has been diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes to an injured left ankle. They will re-evaluate in six to eight weeks. If surgery is needed, Krug wil be lost for the season. After this season, he will still hav two seasons left on a contract paying him $6.5 million.
If he is going to miss the season, Krug could be put on long-term Injured Reserve. However, the Blues are more than $7 million under the cap. They don’t currently need the salary cap boost.
