The Daily: Where’s Respect for Bobrovsky?; Jimmy Howard Vs. Babs

Sergei Bobrovsky, panthers

Florida Hockey Now’s George Richards writes that the NHL Network’s rating of goalies has Sergei Bobrovsky rated too low at No. 7.

He’s not alone in that opinion.

As Richards points out, Bobrovsky went 3-0 in the postseason against Andrei Vasilevskiy, Jeremy Swayman and Igor Shesterkin who are all ranked ahead him in the NHL Network analysis. Bobrovsky was a Vezina finalist and won the Stanley Cup. What else could he have done this past season?

Even NHL Network analyst Bruce Boudreau seemed to feel that Bobrovsky might not be getting the respect he deserved.

“I don’t know how he is this low,’’ said Boudreau, who coached the Washington Captials, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks at the NHL level. “There’s the champion, right there. And the year before, he was unbelievable in the playoffs in Rounds 2, 3 and 4.

“Because we’re in the here-and-now, this is now, right now. I don’t know what he’s going to be after having a year of championship glow around him, and I haven’t been around him all summer.

“But, right now, to me, he should be top 2. I want the champion in net. He’s the guy.”

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Former Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard takes a run at his former coach Mike Babcock.

Why this 2024-25 season is going to be different for Red Wings prospect Jonatan Berggren

Higher expectations put more pressure on the Red Wings. Maybe that will be good for the Derek Lalonde-coached team.

Red Wings Offseason

Former Grand Rapids and Detroit defenseman Steven Kampfer has signed to play for Chelyabinsk in the Kontinental Hockey League. Kampfer has played 231 NHL games.
