The Daily: Slow Playing Laine Deal; Where’s Hirose Going?

Patrik Laine, blue Jackets

Several weeks ago sports websites were jammed with stories about where Mitch Marner might end up when the Toronto Maple Leafs traded him. A couple of week ago, the sports landscape was overgrown with stories about the best fits for a Patrik Laine trade. Is going to Minnesota? How about Pittsburgh?

Today, it seems like Marner will end up playing with the Maple Leafs. Laine doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, either.

Now,  Aaron Portsline of the Athletic, a reporter wired into the Blue Jackets more than any other, says there hasn’t been much traction on a Laine deal.

That certainly could change in a hurry. But certainly the Marner and Laine situations remind us that moving high salaried players is never going to be smooth in a salary cap world.
