The Red Wings are trying to avoid a ninth consecutive season out of the playoffs.
This morning, I stumbled on a Twitter post of a 60-year-old Stanley Cup on-ice video featuring the late Johnny Bower and Gordie Howe. It reminded me of how much class and grace both of those HHOF players had. It also reminds us that probability doesn’t always matter in sports.
After congratulating the Maple Leafs for winning the Stanley Cup , Howe pointed out that his Red Wings team wasn’t supposed to make the playoffs and ended up in the Stanley Cup Final. Fun video for fans who enjoyed the sport’s history.

Red Wings Offseason
The Red Wings will embrace offense by committee this season to replace some of the goals they lost through free agency and trades this summer. GM Steve Yzerman needs some of his regulars to score a few more goals this season. That group includes Joe Veleno. Detroit coaches like the fact that Veleno can move up and down the lineup, depending upon needs and injuries. Veleno netted 12 goals last season. It’s not unthinkable he could net 15 to 18 goals given increase opportunity.
